Meaningful Housing – Participation and Inclusion of Older People in Residential Communities Research 2025 - 2026 Ongoing The study Meaningful Housing – Participation and Inclusion of Older People in Residential Communities generates knowledge to help support older people’s wellbeing and sense of inclusion in their homes, residential communities and local surroundings. The study focuses on residents of senior housing properties within Y-Säätiö’s rental housing portfolio, as well as staff from various professional groups at Y-Säätiö, including housing advisers, customer service staff, staff responsible for resident activities and property managers. From the perspective of housing and residential environments, the study explores, among other things, older people’s wishes for a sense of community, opportunities for participation and inclusion, and practical housing-related support that would enhance their wellbeing. The findings will inform the joint planning of activities by residents and Y-Säätiö’s various professional groups to support older residents’ housing and everyday wellbeing. The study is linked to the three-year Ikävoimaa-valmentajat project, a joint initiative of the Miina Sillanpään Säätiö, Y-Säätiö and Kukunori ry, which strengthens older people’s everyday wellbeing, participation and inclusion. The study is funded by Miina Sillanpään Säätiö and conducted by Maria Kotimäki, Master of Social Sciences, who works as a project worker and researcher at Y-Säätiö.
