The M2-Kodit residential building, owned by Y-Säätiö, located at Myllytie 14 in Järvenpää, has become the first in Finland to receive the prestigious five-star environmental certification from Rakennustieto. This recognition highlights Y-Säätiö’s commitment to ecological construction, renewable energy utilization, and sustainable development.

Rakennustieto’s environmental classification system serves as a tool for promoting environmentally responsible design, construction, and maintenance throughout a building’s lifecycle. The rating scale ranges from 1 to 5 stars, with separate criteria for new construction, renovations, and existing buildings. The Myllytie project focused on responsible and sustainable solutions in collaboration with the contractor, COfLOW Oy.

“This is a significant achievement, as Y-Säätiö’s key objective in new construction is to promote environmentally friendly and responsible building projects while utilizing renewable energy. Now, we have received concrete recognition for this effort,” says Pekka Kampman, CEO of Y-Säätiö palvelut Oy.

Sustainable Construction Meets Comfortable Living in Järvenpää

Environmental friendliness and energy efficiency have gone hand in hand with high-quality living. Sustainability has not come at the expense of innovation or aesthetics—environmentally friendly and forward-thinking housing solutions were integrated from the very beginning of the design phase.

Energy efficiency has been incorporated into all solutions. Solar panels installed on the roof generate renewable energy, and the building’s technical systems are designed to support low-carbon and resource-efficient living. Longevity, ease of use, and flexible adjustability ensure that the property remains efficient throughout its lifecycle.

Completed in 2023, the M2-Kodit Myllytie 14 property includes apartments specifically reserved for professionals in the cultural sector. The top floor features four atelier apartments with ceiling heights of up to five meters, creating a spacious atmosphere and allowing versatile use of space. Additionally, residents have access to a communal clubroom that can be used as a workspace for artistic activities.

Moving Towards a More Sustainable Future

Rakennustieto’s environmental certification audit is also underway for another Y-Säätiö’s M2-Kodit project at Isoseppälä 10 in Nurmijärvi. This project was exceptional as it was completed in less than seven months and generates part of its electricity through solar panels.

Furthermore, Y-Säätiö’s plans to expand its evaluation of environmental certifications in the future and explore the potential of the domestic Joutsenmerkki Ecolabel as part of its commitment to responsible building development.
