It is important to us to provide good housing together with our tenants. We aim to provide a framework for community-oriented tenant activities at M2-Kodit homes.

The year 2017 was the first year of tenant activity for M2-Kodit. The M2-Kodit tenant council and 12 regional groups started operations at the beginning of the year. In addition, 213 building committees took care of tenant activity at the building level.

Our tenants prepared the annual themes for tenant activity in 2017 in working groups. Through engagement, we aim to create a community spirit arising from the tenants on their own terms.

The themes selected for tenant activity were:

  • environment and recycling,
  • rescue and safety,
  • wildlife and nature, as well as
  • well-being and sports.

We organised events for people of all ages around these themes in 2017.

Nature theme days were organised in nine cities and municipalities, recycling and environmental events were organised in Helsinki and Lahti, and safety training was arranged in the Helsinki metropolitan area and Lahti. In addition, youths living in M2-Kodit and Y-Kodit homes had a chance to take part in four different sailing events organised in cooperation with Sail Training Association Finland.

A total of more than 1,000 tenants of M2-Kodit homes took part in the tenant events.

Sports aid for 45 families

Towards the end of 2017, the tenants of M2-Kodit homes had an opportunity to apply for aid for children’s sports hobbies.

“We received a hefty number of applications. We gave financial aid for the sports hobbies of 45 children,” says Kaisa Nisula, tenant administration coordinator.

The most popular hobby among the applications received was football. One-third of the applications were for it. Riding, dancing and cheerleading accounted for another third of the sports. The remaining children and youths had martial arts, swimming, ice skating and team sports, among others, as their hobbies.
