Y-Foundation actively takes part in social discussion on questions relating to affordable housing and homelessness.

CEO Juha Kaakinen was invited as a member to the working group on inequality appointed by Prime Minister Juha Sipilä. The task of the working group is to search for new ways of working and means for stopping social inequality, which has been increasing for a long time. The working group submitted its report to the Prime Minister on 21 March 2018.

Y-Foundation is also continuing its influence work as a member of various associations and working groups. Y-Foundation is a member of the Association for Advocating Affordable Rental Housing (KOVA) and Arvoliitto, an association of social enterprises. In 2017, Y-Foundation joined the Finnish Real Estate Management Federationand the FIBS corporate responsibility network.

Juha Kaakinen was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of Arvoliitto. He also continued as chairman of the Board of Directors of Kriminaalihuollon tukisäätiö KRITS.
